Retail food store business Kroger has recycled more than 1 million soft plastic product packaging from the company's Our Brands line, a program launched in 2020.

“We are always looking for creative and innovative solutions that support our vision of creating a zero-waste community,” said Juan De Paoli, vice president of product line Our Brands at Kroger. "Our customers are making important strides in eliminating waste and creating healthy, thriving communities by recycling packaging and purchasing products with upcycled ingredients, while we work to advance sustainability."

According to reports, Kroger is the first retailer in the world to partner with TerraCycle, which offers a free and simple plastic flexible packaging recycling program for its Our Brands products, and has recycled more than 1 million packages since the program began in 2020 . The program provides customers with free, prepaid shipping labels to mail back Our Brands plastic flexible packaging for recycling. A list of related products can be viewed on its website, where customers can sign up. Recycled materials were used to construct playgrounds that Kroger donated to youth and community organizations.
