According to Tyson Foods, this innovative packaging solution will use less plastic than traditional packaging and do away with the use of plastic trays in traditional retail products. At the same time, the flow packaging can save about 50% of energy in the production process, and can also extend the freshness of fresh meat products by three times.

Flow packs can provide an airtight seal to help preserve the color and freshness of fresh meat products. Additionally, it resists leaks and drips, and the clear packaging also improves product visibility. Tyson Foods added that it is in the interests of consumers that the packages are designed with tear-off edges for easy opening by consumers.
Tyson Foods will initially conduct packaging tests on ground beef products at its Council Bluffs, Iowa, plant before considering expanding to other fresh meat products.
