Cactus enters the food field, niche food shows strong market potential

2023-04-11 15:185030

In recent years, with the explosion of new tea drinks, some "unpopular" fruits, such as yellow skin, mushroom fruit, and oranges, have been able to "show their strengths" in the field of tea drinks, and gradually into the eyes of consumers. This has also inspired people to dig out the nutritional value and health attributes from small fruits, so the cultivation and development of cactus has also attracted people's attention.

Cactus originated in Mexico and was introduced into my country in the Ming Dynasty. It is mainly distributed in Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangdong, Guangxi and the area north of the Yangtze River. Cactus not only has strong ornamental value, but also has certain medicinal value and edible value. "Lu Chuan Materia Medica" records that cactus has the effects of promoting qi and blood circulation, detoxification, detumescence, and detoxification, and it is mainly used to treat sores and coughs. The cactus stem is thick and thick, and the meat is pulpy. It is rich in vitamins, minerals and dietary fiber, as well as amino acids and various trace elements necessary for the human body. In Mexico and other countries, local people process it into canned food or alcoholic beverages , You can also add honey, fresh milk ice cubes to make juice, or make ice cream for consumption.

As the nutritional value and economic value of cactus are further excavated, my country has begun to attach importance to the cultivation of cactus, and "make a fuss" in extending the cactus industry chain and value chain. For example, Yuanqi Forest has launched a cactus lime-flavored beverage ingeniously; the low-alcohol drink brand Congmin Lightly will launch a cactus-flavored low-alcohol drink in the first half of 2022.

In addition, some regions are also vigorously developing the cactus industry based on their resource advantages. Among them, Danzhou City, Hainan introduced edible cactus species from Mexico, entered the health care market, and built a whole industrial chain of cactus. As of 2022, the planting area of cacti in Danzhou will reach more than 1,300 mu, and there will be more than 30 varieties of cacti, including ornamental and edible cacti. According to reports, after the project is put into operation, the annual output value of the cactus is expected to reach more than 70 million yuan.

In order to extend the cactus industry chain, Danzhou City actively builds a food industrial park and processes cactus into cactus health wine, cactus drinks, cactus health products, cactus juice, cactus beer and other products. These products are sold in first- and second-tier cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Sanya and Haikou. It is worth mentioning that Danzhou Cactus Planting base has also joined forces with Hainan University, Tianjin University, Shihezi University and other universities to form a cactus product research and development team to focus on developing more cactus products.

In recent years, with the improvement of living standards, people pay more and more attention to health preservation, and enterprises have entered the health care track one after another. However, there is serious homogeneous competition in the market, whether it is health food or products with green and healthy attributes. Under this background, it has become a major direction for enterprises to start from niche foods and find new economic growth points. It is believed that with the improvement of consumers' recognition and acceptance of cactus products, cactus will definitely burst into strong vitality in the field of food industry.
