Japan's Toppan Printing launched a flexible millimeter-wave reflector to provide a "beauti

News:On June 27, Toppan Printing, a Japanese technology company, announced today that it has developed a flexible millimeter-wave reflector that can reflect radio waves with a wavelength of 1-10mm used in 5G communications to the required direction. This reflector can be packaged in woodgrain or marble tones, or used directly as wallpaper.

According to Toppan Printing, this millimeter-wave reflector is thin, flexible, and has a metasurface structure that controls the direction of radio waves. Millimeter waves with a wavelength of 1-10mm can be reflected in any direction through the reflector.

Millimeter waves used in 5G have a strong propensity to travel in straight lines, making it difficult to navigate around obstacles. So far, manufacturers have generally chosen to use metal reflectors to eliminate blind spots, but the reflectors are heavy, thick and not aesthetically pleasing.

Toppan Printing said that the company will continue to develop millimeter wave reflective outdoor applications and participate in the application research and development of the next generation mobile communication standard (6G).

It was previously reported that due to the short transmission distance, millimeter waves have only been commercially applied in a few countries such as the United States. As of 2022, 140 operators worldwide have millimeter wave licenses in 24 countries. But only 28 operators have actually deployed mmWave in 16 countries.
